Wrapper, 1989, belongs to a significant body of work developed by Prunella Clough during the mid-1980s, in which the artist turned from industrial landscapes to overlooked fragments of consumer culture. Drawing on discarded plastic packaging, sweet wrappers and other ephemeral objects encountered in London's streets and markets, Clough reduced these humble sources into poised, structural abstract compositions that hover between recognition and abstraction. This screenprint is a distilled counterpart to the paintings from this series.
